The Northern Youths Leaders Forum (NYLF) advised the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to review the choice of Obi, if he hopes to earn the North’s support. The group, which prides itself as the apex body of 46 youth organisations in the North, threatened to mobilise its over six million members against the PDP and its presidential candidate, if Atiku failed to take its advice.
Peter Gregory Obi fondly, called ‘OKWUTE’ meaning ‘ROCK’, was born in Onitsha on July 19, 1961. He is a native of Agulu in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State. He had his secondary education at Christ the King Onitsha, before proceeding to the University Of Nigeria, Nsukka where he earned a B.A in Philosophy in 1984.
His academic odyssey also took him outside the shores of Nigeria to Ivy league and Oxbridge schools. He attended Harvard Business School, Boston, USA; London School of Economics (Financial Management/Business Policy) Columbia Business School New York, USA (Marketing Management); Institute for Management and Development, Switzerland, Kellogg Graduate School of Management, USA, Oxford University and Cambridge.
Peter Gregory Obi owns a bank, controls many international franchises in Nigeria and has shares worth billions of naira in blue chip companies — but you are more likely to run into Peter Gregory Obi on a commercial flight than a private jet. You could even meet him sitting comfortably in economy class when he cannot get seats in business. Obi is probably the only Nigerian governor who regularly flew commercial while in office.
