Bashar al-Assad and Vladimir Putin - Russia News - Syria War

Russia, for example, wants to rebuild Syria’s train network. “Russia built it in the first place, and wants to rebuild this and strategic economic ties,” said independent Russian analyst Vyacheslav Matuzov. “Russia wants … a new Mideast security order,” said Emile Hokayem, Middle East security expert at the International Institute for Strategic Studies.Continue reading

Swiss and EU Flags

Swiss talks with the European Union have not made enough progress so far to clinch a new treaty due to differences over rules to protect high Swiss wages from cross-border competition, Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis told parliament on Thursday. Cassis did not rule out the possibility of striking a deal with the EU, Switzerland’s biggest trade partner, by the end of this year, though he reiterated that the labour rules remain a non-negotiable “red line” for the Swiss side.Continue reading

Egypt Sinai Tribesmen

In a switch from the past, the military has begun arming Bedouin tribesmen like Abu-Sefira and having them patrol in operations against the IS militants deep in the peninsula’s interior, where their local knowledge gives them an advantage, Abu-Sefira and other Bedouin say.

“We have to do it, it’s our duty to make the people feel safe from the terrorists who were killing us,” Ibrahim Abu-Sefira said.Continue reading

Russian S-500 Prometey Surface-to-Air Missile, Anti-Ballistic Missile System (Top) vs F-35 (Left) and US F-22 (Right)

"It is safe to say already now that Russia has created the world's first multi-stage air defense system, that will reliably protect the country from massive missile strikes," Zvezda TV station stated. "The S-500 will analyze information about a possible missile attack obtained by early warning satellites and over-the-horizon radars, such as the Voronezh, as well as select targets, in terms of their importance, cut off false targets at a great distance, accompany all this and finally issue target designations to various systems."

Vladimir Putin - Russia Politics News Headlines

Whatever happens to the rebels in Idlib province, Russia is determined to keep Syria solidly anchored in its sphere of influence over the long term — both as a foothold in the Middle East and as a warning to the U.S. and its allies against future interference.

“Russia wants … a new Mideast security order,” said Emile Hokayem, Middle East security expert at the International Institute for Strategic Studies.Continue reading

Donald Trump - USA Politics News Headline

US President Donald Trump says: “What’s happening in Venezuela is a disgrace. I just want to see Venezuela straightened out. I want the people to be safe. We’re going to take care of Venezuela. All options are on the table, every one — strong ones and the less than strong ones — and you know what I mean by strong.”Continue reading

Comparison - US F-22s, B-2 Bombers vs. Russian S-300

S-300 and its follow-on systems are some of the most capable and dangerous air defenses an opposing air force could ever face. Not only are the missiles mobile, but the systems are networked together. One S-300 battery is a handful, but several such systems networked together into an integrated air defense system is a nearly insurmountable challenge for most fourth-generation fighters like the F-16 or F-15. The S-300 series is deadly. “A complete game changer for all fourth-gen aircraft [like the F-15, F-16 and F/A-18]. That thing is a beast and you don’t want to get near it.”

Bahrain’s police have arrested 15 anti-regime activists for allegedly trying to “cause chaos” during mourning ceremonies held by Shia Muslims that culminated last Thursday. Muhammadu Buhari - Nigeria Politics Headline Story

Teneo Intelligence, a New York-based analysis firm, says the Osun state governorship election has shown that President Muhammadu Buhari could lose in 2019. “A second term for Mr Buhari however raises the risk of limited economic progress and further fiscal deterioration, prolonging the stagnation of his first term, particularly if there is no move towards completing reform of the exchange rate system or fiscal adjustments that diversify government revenues away from oil,” the report read.Continue reading

Donald Trump - US Politics News

U.S. President Donald Trump said: “The second accuser has nothing. She thinks maybe it could have been him, maybe not. She admits that she was drunk. She admits that there are time lapses. Thirty-six years ago, nobody ever knew about it or heard about it, and now a new charge comes up and she said it might not be him, and there were gaps and she said she was totally inebriated, and she was all messed up. The Democrats are playing a con game. They know it’s a con game,” he said. “It’s a shame that you can do this to a person’s life.”Continue reading

Jeremy Corbyn - UK Politics News

British opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn said to a standing ovation: “As it stands, Labour will vote against the Chequers plan or whatever is left of it and oppose leaving the EU with no deal. And it is inconceivable that we should crash out of Europe with no deal – that would be a national disaster. That is why if parliament votes down a Tory (Conservative) deal or the government fails to reach any deal at all we would press for a general election.” Continue reading

India Biometric ID Program

India’s top court on Wednesday upheld the constitutional validity of the country’s ambitious biometric identity project ‘Aadhaar’, saying it benefits the marginalized and poor, but raised multiple concerns around the law that governs it, calling for changes. Among other things, India’s unique Aadhaar number – linked to an individual’s face, iris and finger prints – is used to help plug theft and leakages in the $23.63 billion (£17.9 billion) a year food welfare programme.Continue reading

“This is a judiciary matter. Brunson has been detained on terrorism charges … On Oct 12 there will be another hearing and we don’t know what the court will decide and politicians will have no say on the verdict,” Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said.

If found guilty, US Pastor Andrew Brunson could be jailed for up to 35 years. He denies the charges. Continue reading

Israel opens high-speed rail link between Tel Aviv airport and Jerusalem

Israel opened a high-speed rail link between Tel Aviv’s international airport and Jerusalem on Tuesday, part of a $2 billion project that has drawn Palestinian complaints over its route through small parts of the occupied West Bank.

“It was like a dream come true … It’s really quite amazing and will be a valuable asset to people wanting to get to and from the airport,” said Manchester-born Eli Rothbard, 45, a ground services employee at Ben Gurion. Continue reading

Benjamin Netanyahu - Israel Politics News Headline

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said: “Over the past three years, Israel has been highly successful in preventing the Iranian military entrenchment in Syria and Iranian attempts to transfer lethal weaponry to Hezbollah in Lebanon. We will continue to act to prevent Iranian military entrenchment in Syria and we will continue the military coordination between the IDF (Israel Defence Forces) and the Russian army.Continue reading
